Our shop is a collaboration.

Founded by Tanja Cesh of Mulxiply and Kristen Camp of Campfire Pottery, our shop showcases our collections and the handmade work of emerging designers and sustainable brands that we love. Ember is nestled in “The Arts” district at the Western end of Portland’s Old Port.

 About Us

Campfire Pottery

Kristen Camp

I'm the Founder of Campfire Pottery along with my husband Joe. We are a ceramic design team centered around creating a collection of ceramic heirlooms designed to inspire the art of entertaining. All of our ceramics are handmade in our home studio in Gray, Maine.

Our vision is to create contemporary ceramic designs that bring people together, inside and outdoors. Campfire is not only a part of our name, but a visual representation of our roots and brand identity. A campfire is the oldest act of human-gathering. It also symbolizes the outdoor environment where our Raku (Japanese-style ceramic process) is executed. Our goal is to share our love of traveling, cooking, and entertaining through their collection of high-end, handmade ceramics.

MULXIPLY

Tanja Cesh

I’m the founder of MULXIPLY (pronounced “multiply) — a sustainable lifestyle brand that collaborates with artists and master craftsmen and women in Nepal. From jewelry to apparel and children’s items, I design each piece here in Maine, but I’ve found that partnering with artists in Nepal to create our collection is a way to bring their knowledge of ancient techniques into the spotlight and keep heritage handicraft alive — elevating art an artisan.

While I spend time each year in Nepal, my home is here in Maine. Community matters in both places. I love living in Portland, a place where artists, small business owners, and dreamers are celebrated. It’s my hope that our shop will be a place that inspires people to appreciate the touch of handmade and the artist or designer behind every piece, whether our collections or others.

"Sometimes, a flame can be utterly extinguished.
Sometimes, a flame can shrink and waver, but sometimes a flame refuses to go out.

It flares up from the faintest ember to illuminate the darkness, to burn in spite of overwhelming odds."

—KAREN HESSE

We named our shop Ember because it speaks to a common vision, to how our products are made, and to the idea of warmth and community.

Both of our primary products require fire as a common ingredient: pottery must be fired in a kiln, and with jewelry, the metals must be forged with fire. When people gather around a fire, you end up staring at the embers—the energy and source of the warmth. The ember is the spark, and the spark is what ignites both friendship and creativity.
